Lee County Sheriff says a Compromise Between Trump and Illinois Needed Concerning Undocumented Immigrants

The Trump Administration has begun to ramp up the apprehension and deportation of undocumented immigrants in the country.  They have decided that Illinois is thought of as ground zero.  Particularly the city of Chicago.

Lee County Sheriff Clay Whelan said he sees the dichotomy of the situation.  The Sheriff feels the state cannot keep thumbing its nose at the Trump administration and a compromise needs to be found in Springfield.

Whelan said a sheriff is currently not allowed to work with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

He went on to say it did not make sense to him that law enforcement cannot contact ICE when a dangerous individual is about to be released.   He called it a simple task to keep a community safe.
