One of the major topics of discussion at Tuesday Dixon City Council meeting was garbage. The topic was a five-year extension of the contract with Republic Services for Dixon garbage and recycling pick-up.
Before the topic came up, during the public comment section, Kathy Lane stated that the city would have looked more transparent if they had put this topic out for bid first.
City Manager Dan Langloss stated that the agreement would ensure continuity of high quality of service. The council was told that many people do have complaints with the service. However, Langloss said those complaints had not reached him.
He further pointed out the deal ensures the tipping fees the city receives from the landfill. He called this a substantial revenue for the city.
The contract is for a 5-year extension at a cost to customers of $18.50 per month and a 4% increase yearly. The council approved the extension.
