Lee County Passes a New Budget and Tax Levy, But Not Quietly

By Tim Garnhart Nov 22, 2024 | 8:52 AM

The Lee County Board passed a new budget and tax levy during their Thursday night meeting.  However, the issue did not go quietly.

Before the County meeting, there was a Truth in Taxation meeting where a few residents voice opposition in the raising of taxes to balance the budget.

Some stated more cuts needed to be made.  Board member Tim Bivins pointed out that cuts had been made.

Finance Committee Chair Jim Schielein said they have worked on the budget since June.  He said there were many opportunities to voice concerns before now.  Schielein said it is not a good idea to make changes to the budget at the last minute before the county needed to approve it.

The county approved both the budget and the levy.
