Reagan Middle School notified District Administration at approximately 7:30 am that a “glue like” odor was detected in the gymnasium, locker room, and hallways inside the building.

Students were beginning to enter the school building for the start of the day, and they were directing students outside until the source of the odor could be found.

Madison Elementary was also evacuated outdoors for safety purposes even though the odor was not detected in their building. Local law enforcement, the Dixon Fire Department, and the City of Dixon were notified to assist in determining the origin of the odor and next steps that should be taken.

Gas monitoring was conducted by the Dixon Fire Department, with no toxic gases being detected. The City of Dixon determined the sewer work being done on Fargo Avenue was the source of the fumes.

City Officials notified the School District that the resin being used is non-toxic and is used to line the sewer lines under the street. Air monitoring conducted this morning determined that there was no toxicity in the air, and all levels of air quality were acceptable for inhabitants.

The School District is planning for a normal day of school on Friday
