The Dixon School Board met in session Wednesday night and moved through a rather light agenda.

Dianne Frye, longtime secretary to Superintendent Margo Empen recently lost her mother. She thanked the board for the flowers and cards.

Spring sports are underway and Empen said that baseball and softball wouldn’t be possible without the partnership with the Dixon Park District for use of their fields.

In other news, the board approved the bids for the new ceiling tile, updated gym floor, and playground at the Dempsey Therapeutic School. Empen shared that last fall when the school opened that these items would be taken care of thanks to the IDEA Special Ed Grant.

30 minutes will be added to the school day starting in the 2025-26 school year. During meetings with teaches they explained that they needed more time to the academic side of things in order to help students get ready for national testing.
