The Illinois House Thursday passed legislation sponsored by State Representative Brad Fritts (R-Dixon) which will move Illinois to a modern model of providing motorcycle safety classes to Illinois resident.
HB2980 was drafted after numerous conversations held with experts throughout the U.S.
The ABATE initiative legislation expands potential training providers to include existing providers with many years of experience, while still allowing Illinois colleges and universities to remain training providers as well.
It still provides the same free motorcycle safety training to Illinois residents with no increased cost to motorcyclists or the State budget.
The bill also increases safety and consistency while reducing risk by requiring quality assurance inspection reports to be filed with IDOT.
HB2980 was approved on a vote of 114-0 and heads to the Senate.
