In recent years, solar farm companies have made their way into the Sauk Valley. At times, these companies simply state what they want to do and that is it.
Recently, the Sterling City Council was approached from Sun Dial Energy about a proposed solar farm near Palmyra and Holly. Several on the council made statements about how well Sun Dial Energy was willing to work with the city. Mayor Diane Merdian thanked the company being proactive approach.
It was stated the agreement is for 40 years, one 30-year agreement with two 5-year extensions. The city would also receive $30,000 in two installments.
Alderman Jim Wise suggested using the money in the city program to help those in the city pay their utility bills during the winter. City Manager Scott Schumard said if the city annexes the property it would increase the cities maintenance cost.
It was also stressed this was not just a letter of non-objection, but also a letter of support. The letter was approved.
