During a windy and cold morning on Tuesday, a couple of hundred persons came to the Band Shell at Page Park in Dixon. This was for the official dedication of the Project Rock Pedestrian Bridge.
It was pointed out the ROCK stands for Revitalizing Opportunities for the Community and Kids.
Present at the event was Acting Head of the Illinois Department of Transportation Gia Biagi. She made the statement that a project such as this does not happen without the collaborative commitment of many people.
Dixon Mayor Glen Hughes also wanted to thank many people. However, the mayor pointed out three persons he felt embraced the vision more than others did. This would be Former Mayor Jim Burke, IDOT Engineer Bill Ost and Larry Reed.
Larry Reed was head of the River Front Commission that envisioned the pedestrian bridge and wrote it down as a part of the Riverfront Master Plan in 2002.
