The annual Phidian Art Show in Dixon is one of the oldest art shows in the country.  Thursday night, for the 76th time, the club held its show at the Loveland Community House and Museum.

Director of the Phidian Art Club Ellen Allen said she felt the art being done in the Sauk Valley is unique and the artist are playing off their surroundings.  She went on to say more people are enrolling in local art classes so they could express themselves.

Thursday night there were 25 artists and their work on display.  Allen said that number is lower, nonetheless, she has hopes it will grow.

The Phidian Art Club in Dixon has been in existence for over 100 years.  This makes it the second oldest women’s art club in the entire country.  The oldest club is on the east coast.
