In Whiteside County, the supporters of the Whiteside County Sales Tax Referendum, the third time was the charm. Voters during the Consolidated Election Tuesday approved the proposal with 55% saying yes and 45% saying no.
Whiteside County Sheriff John Booker said he understands how people feel when you mention a tax. However, he said they were able to get out and inform the voters about this referendum.
Booker said for thirty years they have wanted to have one consolidated 911 Dispatch Center. With this that dream will now become a reality.
Booker also said this tax would not be imposed on things such as groceries or anything that needs a registration like a vehicle. Nonetheless, people who visit Whiteside County will be helping to pay for the center.
