A couple of years ago, the Sterling Fire Department donated a fire truck to the Central Illinois organization called U.S. Ambulances for Ukraine. This fire truck, according to reports is still being used extensively by Ukrainian fire fighters.
The Sterling Police Department is now following suit. The department had some surplus vehicles they wanted to get rid of. U.S. Ambulance for Ukraine approached the city, at that time, again. They said one of the types of vehicles they needed were SUV’s. Police Chief Alex Chavira said they had more vehicles, but the group only asked for two.
The vehicles have been stripped of equipment and will be donated and picked up at the end of April.
Chavira said he has not heard anything about any other donations from the public for the vehicles. If he does, he would put out the information. The fire truck was filled with medical supplies and other items.
