It was a special night at the Dixon City Council meeting Tuesday night.  This is Black History Month and it is at this time when the city presents two awards to members of the black community of Dixon who have given so much to the city.

For just the second time, the city presented the Lifetime Achievement Award.  This presented to the family of former city council member James Dishman.  Dishman was described as a dependable man with a great deal of integrity.

The other award presented is the Ike Mercer Award, named in honor of Ike Mercer.  Mercer is known for his dedication and commitment to the city and the citizens.

This year the award was presented to the founder of the Sauk Valley Voices of Recovery Gerald Lot.  The Sauk Valley Voices of Recovery has grown from its beginning in 2019 to be a multi-million dollar non-profit who has helped over 700 persons with alcohol addiction.  They also run the Sober Living Home
