The Rock Falls City Council members got the chance to purchase a calendar for a good cause at the meeting Tuesday night.

Representatives from the Optimist Club were selling calendars with classic photos of Rock Falls and Sterling landmarks. 23 years ago, the calendars were first sold for $5 dollars to raise money for the children of the community. Today, you can still pick one up for $5 bucks.

The meeting agenda was filled with ordinances for first reading that had to do with the fiscal year tax levy, General Obligation Bonds, and abating tax levied using alternative revenue sources such as electric, waterworks, and sewage. City Administrator Robbin Blackert said that it’s time to give a brief lesson on bonds and tax abatement. Without the yearly abatement, the tax would be reflected on resident’s property tax bills.

In other news, the council approved the appointments of Emily Simpson to the Fire Pension Board, and Gene Jacoby to the Industrial Development Commission.

Two resolutions both pertaining for maintenance under the Illinois Highway Code were ratified appropriating $480,000.00 and $160,000.00 thousand dollars.
