For only the 13th time throughout the country, Dixon may soon get a unique designation.
During the Dixon City Council meeting Monday evening, the council was asked to approve the first step to get the designation as a POW/MIA City. A spokesperson for the local veterans said they just needed the support of the city, they would handle the rest.
The group also stated they already have a significant monument at the Veterans Memorial. They simply need to bring awareness and explain the POW/MIA Flag.
Mayor Glen Hughes stated the city would need to place signage around town stating it is a POW/MIA City. The cost would be $100 per sign. The mayor figured 5 signs would do.
