During the most recent Dixon City Council meeting, Mayor Glen Hughes told the council members that complaint from residents regarding homeless building tent shelters has reached one of the top complaints he receives
In the past, the city could do little about it. However, following a recent decision from the Supreme Court, Hughes said the city could pass an ordinance with some teeth in it.
The new ordinance allows the local police to tell someone they must vacate the area within 24 hours. There could also be a $75 fine.
Council member Mary Oros said the city has a good relationship with groups such as PADS, this could be an extension of those organizations.
