The Sterling City Council met in session Monday night and things got underway with the approval of a pay request in the amount of just over $177,000 thousand dollars to Gorman and Company for engineering work done at the Lawrence Brothers property where a new driveway and parking spaces have been put in.
City Manager Scott Shumard explained the tax levy estimate and how it needed to be lowered to stay within the truth and taxation rules.
Shumard went on to say that this is the first time in his 20 years on the job that the Police and Fire General Fund Levy has been below the .15 rate, which means that the assessed valuation is growing.
In other news, Miller Company have been raising buried manholes throughout the city and installing new sewer lines. Mayor Diana Merdian shared that she was informed that the Safe Streets for All grant that the city applied for back in May has been approved.
The $320,000 thousand dollar award, with a $80,000 thousand dollar match will help to extend the bike path around the community, and, have an inventory of all city intersections to perform a traffic count inventory to decide what signs will be needed and installed.
