Sterling Council Takes a bit Here and There to Mold New Naming Rights Ordinance

When someone passes away, it is not uncommon for the family or group to name something as a memorial.  In the past, this has been a park bench or sometimes a tree.

During the recent Sterling City Council meeting, the members were asked to approve an updated ordinance concerning guidelines for naming rights.

Mayor Diana Merdian wanted to stress these new guidelines only apply to property owned by the city.

City Manager Scott Schumard said the guidelines answered questions concerning trees named for someone that needs to be removed or benches that need repair.

He said they looked at similar ordinances from other municipalities.  The city took bits and pieces that fit Sterling best, said Schumard.  The council approved the ordinance.
