The Sterling City Council met in session Monday evening and a couple of residents got up to voice their concerns about the continued problem of speeding vehicles.

Things like cars coasting through stop signs and driving too fast near schools and hospitals were brought to the attention of the council members. One local resident Scott Baker went as far as to say that it’s a city wide problem.

Suggestions like speed bumps and flashing red stop signs were offered and taken under advisement by Mayor Diana Merdian.

In other news, the Knights of Columbus will be holding a bucket brigade on September 21, as well as Happy Tails Animal Shelter will be holding a fundraising bucket brigade on October 5.

The council adopted a resolution for naming guidelines for facilities and buildings for the city of Sterling. City Manager Scott Shumard explained that certain buildings, park benches and trees have been dedicated over the years for residents and city dignitaries without actual direction and now there is rules in place.
