United Way of Lee County Day of Caring is Such a Rewarding Event

By Sam Ramirez Aug 21, 2024 | 10:11 AM

I have participated in several United Way Day of Caring events. One year, I was part of a group that helped stock the shelves at Goodfellows of Lee County. I remember another year painting the City of Dixon Water Department building with another group. Then there was the year that I helped paint benches at Washington School in Dixon and drop mulch at Reagan Middle School.

The United Way Day of Caring celebrates volunteerism throughout Lee County by bringing together volunteers from local businesses, schools, churches, civic groups, and families to complete projects and make a significant impact on the nonprofit community. This event is a remarkable team builder for groups and allows volunteers to see firsthand the great work accomplished by the nonprofits in Lee County.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 8-12pm. United Way Day of Caring begins with a kickoff at Dixon High School, where volunteers will gather for their Day of Caring T-shirts. Then, volunteers will head out to over 15 project sites. Projects will include painting, landscaping, cleaning, and general up-keep.

“United Way of Lee County organizes Day of Caring each year. This event is an incredible collaboration between volunteers and community organizations,” said Ashley Richter, United Way of Lee County’s Executive Director. “What’s really special about this event is the volunteers that work so hard to make positive, long-lasting community change. It’s wonderful.”

Day of Caring helps people across Lee County join together to help non-profit organizations that do so much for our neighbors. It is a day where the United Way mantra LIVE UNITED is put into action.
